OPIOID EPIDEMIC

EARLY RELEASE FOR OFFENDERS SERVING MORE THAN 3 YEARS

When it comes to legislation in Florida, it is finally time to take the side of criminal reform within the justice system.

Because mental illness is on the rise, it is easy for people especially young people to become substance abusers. Because of this, it is important to introduce legislation that will lessen the sentencing of first time drug offenders and offer more programs and governmental incentives that will give them another chance at life and less time behind bars.

STRICTER LAWS ON THE DRUGLORD & CARTELS

In the state of Florida, the individual that uses drugs often serves just as much time or sometimes even serves more prison time than the one that provided the substance and/or paraphernalia.

This circumstance is often overlooked and not considered when sentencing occurs; it is time to bring justice to this type of victimization.

LESSER SENTENCES FOR THOSE WITH DRUG CHARGES

Often times people spend a good majority of their lives incarcerated for an addiction that they often cannot overcome.

Rather than continuing to keep our Florida prisons overcrowded and underfunded, it is time for the Florida legislature to begin to introduce PROACTIVE legislation on behalf of the substance abuser(s) by creating legislative opportunities to further a more in-depth approach to rehabilitation and second chance opportunities rather than enabling those struggling with addiction to continue the same vicious cycle of incarceration year after year.
